Obituaries: Doris Audrey Walker

Doris Audrey Walker, 85, of Seneca, died March 19, 2008 at Blue Mountain Hospital in John Day. At her request, there will be no services.

She was born in Cascade, Idaho on March 2, 1923 to Peter and Esther (Heikkola) Ashton. She spent her early childhood years in Idaho. Her family moved to Grant County in the 1930s. She graduated from Grant Union High School in 1941.

That same year, she married George “Bub” Walker. They started their life together in John Day, but shortly after moved to Portland. Bub joined the Navy in 1944 and Doris lived on and off the base during Bub’s service years. They returned to Grant County after his discharge and remained here for the rest of their lives.

In her younger years, she was very active in the Degree of Honor Lodge and served as president. She also enjoyed her sewing club and in later years, she tried league bowling. She loved animals and could watch birds by the hour. She always loved to camp out, fish and hunt. She had several jobs during her life, but her main and most loved was being a homemaker and a housewife. Family was everything to her and she meant everything to her family.

Mrs. Walker is survived by her daughters, Barbara (Jim) Holder of Maupin and Sherry Deming (partner Mike Davidson) of Seneca; sons, George Walker Jr. of Seneca; William “Robb” (Anne) Walker of Albany; and Pete (Michelle) Walker of Seneca; 13 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Pete and Esther Ashton; husband, Bub; two brothers, Bob and Bill Ashton; daughter-in-law, Patty; grandson, Jimmy; and great-grandson, Kody.
