Police from three agencies got involved in tracking a motorcyclist who was seen riding in a closed wildlife area and then took off at a high rate of speed.
The incident began about 12:30 p.m. Saturday, March 22, as Oregon State Trooper Larry Johnson was conducting a patrol on a four-wheeler along the Jackass Creek access road to the Philip P. Snyder Wildlife Area, in the Murderers Creek area.
Johnson said that when he motioned the motorcylist to stop, the man spun his bike around and took off at a high rate of speed.
Officers from the John Day Police and Grant County Sheriff’s Office joined OSP troopers in looking for the man and located his bike parked on the South Fork Road.
At 7:50 p.m. the man returned to his vehicle, a 2005 Honda CRF 450X, and was arrested, Johnson reported.
Harold Scott Wells, 34, of Canyon City, was taken to the Grant County Jail on charges of attempting to elude in a vehicle and violation of road closure.
