Monument Seniors: 4.30.08

MONUMENT – Tuesday, April 22 brought 51 of our friends and neighbors out to feast on four different kinds of pizza, green salad, pears and brownies. I wrote the above, then thought about the upper level of seniors here weren’t “raised” on pizza. My first pizza was when I was in California in my early 20s. My mother didn’t even cook spaghetti until her grandkids were old enough to eat it. They used to serve spaghetti in the cafeteria in Prineville, but my big brother’s tips about the worms took care of that for me! I like it now.

Rose Howe was introduced by our “esteemed CEO,” Jerry Cowger and she thanked everyone for supporting the EMTs, and the seniors for allowing them to hold their classes and meetings in the senior center. And we now have the most “emergency responders” of all the other villages in Grant County, and we think that includes John Day also. Jack Sweek endorsed the EMTs with pleasure. He scared the stuffing out of us awhile back and he said the EMTs were great. I already knew that.

Bodean is off running around somewhere but Reverend Soyster kindly stepped in and said “grace” for us. Thank you, reverend.

The winners of the certificates were Pam Callahan won the free meal; Lois Groves won Chester’s Thriftway and I got the one from Guys and Gals! Talk about someone needing “hair work,” it’s me!

The little feller that Bruce Strange was calling “quick cash” is named Austen Taylor Mackie!
