Early each spring, there arises from the Izee Summit a tumultuous, rhythmic, thundering, deafening roar as oysters from the Pacific Ocean proudly make their annual migration to the Grant County community of Seneca.

This year’s annual Seneca Oyster Feed and related community activities will be held in downtown Seneca in the city park Saturday, May 31, beginning mid-morning and continuing throughout the day. It’s a tasty treat locals and visitors alike always remember! But be forewarned, the oyster supply is usually gone by mid-afternoon, so plan to be there early to get a good deal on one of Grant County’s best meals.

And while the oyster feed is the main event, there are plenty of other activities scheduled throughout the day and evening for the entire family.

A co-ed softball tournament runs throughout the day at the city park field and volleyball and horseshoe pits are open to all.

Children’s activities are ongoing throughout the day at the park.

Participants buy into the Silvies River Bud Race for $5 and get their official Budweiser racing bottle in which there’s an entry number.

On the Silvies River, just a stone’s throw from the park, the bottles are placed in the rushing water. At the drop of the green flag, they’re off! Picking up momentum, they churn their way through swirling, spring-swollen waters of the Silvies River until making the finish line at the bridge. The winners of the race receive cash prizes of up to $500 or more plus a host of gifts, handmade articles and other gifts. Also, visitors can enter a golf scramble at Bear Valley Meadows Golf Course and canoe races for men and women. For more information, call Seneca City Hall at (541) 542-2161.
