Get a taste of the trail

BAKER CITY – A “Taste of the Trail” Wagon Encampment event May 24, 25, 26 at the National Historic Oregon Trail Interpretive Center will give food lovers and modern cooks a chance to see and taste how pioneers fixed meals along the Oregon Trail 150 years ago.
On Saturday, Sunday, and Monday between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., costumed interpreters will provide Dutch oven cooking demonstrations at the Center’s outdoor wagon encampment.
Theater programs will cover topics of wild game along the trail, and “Cooking on the Trail” explains how pioneers gathered and prepared their food.
The Elkhorn Muzzleloaders will provide black powder shooting demonstrations. Pioneer music is planned at the wagon encampment each day. The special children’s exhibit “Pack Your Wagon” will be available in the Flagstaff Gallery.
The National Historic Oregon Trail Interpretive Center, operated by the Bureau of Land
Management, is located five miles east of Baker City on Highway 86.
Admission for adults is $5. Seniors are $3.50. Children 15 and under are free.
