JOHN DAY – Grant County ranchers have until July 18 to sign up for the Livestock Compensation Program, the USDA Grant County Farm Service Agency announced last week.
The program provides aid to livestock producers who suffered grazing losses or incurred additional feed costs due to the 2007 drought.
Payments are made on all eligible livestock owned on Jan. 1, 2007. Ranchers are eligible even if they did not purchase crop or rangeland insurance.
As of May 1 this year, 47 producers in Grant County have received compensation totaling $121,221 through the FSA program.
