PRAIRIE CITY – After a three-year hiatus, one of Grant County’s oldest and most cherished businesses, the Branding Iron Restaurant and Saloon in Prairie City, is open again.

Although the doors were shut and the lights dimmed in May 2005, the spirit of the Branding Iron was re-kindled in October 2007 by new owners, Henry and Dawn Blaszek.

The owners completely renovated the restaurant, finishing up the work by May. Guests can dine in the restaurant and relax in the saloon, where they can choose from sipping on their favorite cold beverage, singing karaoke, dancing, or playing games such as darts, pool or shuffleboard.

Knowing the history and popularity of the Branding Iron over the years, Henry said he wanted to maintain the familiar name and good memories, but also “breathe new life into it.” Patrons will still find good country cooking and good music – mostly live, mostly country, with an occasional classic rock-style band.

Opening and operating restaurants and bars is nothing new for for the Blaszeks, who both have many years of experience in the food and beverage industry.

Dawn has worked as a waitress, bartender and manager in a variety of settings over the past 15 years. Henry has achieved most of his honors and accomplishments as a chef and a food and beverage consultant. During his 30-year career in the hospitality industry, he has designed, remodeled and opened a multitude of bars and restaurants across the United States.

The Blaszeks say that they are enjoying Prairie City and all the natural treasures Eastern Oregon has to offer. They look forward to purchasing land and having a home built in the Prairie City area in the near future.

The Branding Iron Restaurant and Saloon is located at 137 SW. Front Street. No reservations are needed. Call 820-4853 for current hours of operation ands event information, or visit the website at (www.originalbrandingiron.com).
