Obituaries: Marnie Jo Jones

Marnie Jo Jones, 59, of Baker City, died at her home on June 28, 2008, just one day after her birthday. She had suffered from cancer for the past year.

A memorial service was held Wednesday, July 2, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Baker City. Bishop Ernie Collard officiated.

She was born on June 27, 1949, in Prairie City and lived in Eastern Oregon for most of her life. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she held many positions, including president of the Relief Society. One of her favorite roles was teaching a group of small boys, an assignment given by Bishop James Kerns.

She lived in Bates until 1963, then family moved to Galena. She attended grade school in Bates and graduated from Prairie City High School with honors. She later attended business school in Boise, Idaho, where she again excelled.

Her career spanned many jobs and occupations, from bank loan officer to her final job as a trial court administrator under Judge Milo Pope. She retired in 2004 due to poor health, but remained active in her home and church.

Survivors include her husband, Ed Jones of Baker City; mother, Marnie McConnell of Galena; daughters, Carolyn (Keith) Bobo of Baker City and Dawnya (Dan) Kirkpatrick of Terry, Montana; grandsons, Jake and Ron; granddaughters, Micah and Shantelle; and several stepchildren.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Fred and Mattie McConnell, and Frank and Neni Frey; father, Cody McConnell; and brother, Terry McConnell.
