HINES – Nearly 40 wild horses will be offered for adoption at three mustang events in Oregon this month: 25-30 horses in Molalla on July 18-19, two in Prineville on July 19-20, and eight in Bend on July 26-27.

The Molalla and Prineville events present mustangs from Jackie’s Butte and Beaty’s Butte Herd Management Areas and the Murderers Creek Wild Horse Territory. The Bend adoption features eight horses from the Kiger and Riddle herds.

For event schedules, photos and more information, call the Burns District Bureau of Land Management (BLM) office at 541- 573-4400.

In addition to the scheduled events, horse lovers are encouraged to visit Oregon’s Wild Horse Corrals in Hines and adopt directly from the facility. Free hauling is provided within a 400-mile radius during July and August. There are over 200 mares, geldings, colts and fillies available, along with nearly 60 weanlings born in the corrals this past winter and spring.

Can’t make it to a mustang event or the corral facility? Adopt a mustang online. The BLM’s internet adoption program is in full swing and celebrating its 10-year anniversary this month. Beginning July 9, 20 Oregon mustangs are up for viewing and adoption. Visit www.blm.gov/adoptahorse for more information, photos, or to place your bid.

Only qualified adopters can take an animal home, but others are welcome to view the horses and corrals. Qualified adopters are those who have registered and been approved to adopt through the Wild Horse Program.

All horse enthusiasts are encouraged to consider becoming adopters so these wild horses can be placed in good, safe homes. With their stamina, hardiness, and quick intelligence, Oregon’s wild horses can make excellent partners for any discipline.
