Arrests and citations the Blue Mountain Eagle reports are taken from the logs of area law-enforcement agencies. Every effort is made to report the court disposition of all arrests listed.
Justice CourtCANYON CITY – The Grant County Justice Court reported the following fines and judgments:
? Bridgit Landen, Crane, was cited for violation of the basic rule (76/55 zone) and fined $242. For failing to appear, her driver’s license was suspended and she was fined $25.
? Harold Stitzel, Wallowa, was cited twice for overload. The first fine was $82 and the second was $237.
? John Lee, Aumsville, was cited for violation of the basic rule (82/55 zone) and fined $242.
? Matthew Long, Springfield, was cited for violation of the basic rule (71/55 zone) and fined $145.
? Gregory Hart, Bend, was cited for violation of the basic rule (81/55 zone) and fined $242.
? David Thompson, Nanaimo, British Columbia, was cited for violation of the basic rule (73/55 zone) and fined $145.
? Russell Clark, John Day, was cited for careless driving and fined $185.
? Shala Aldous, Bend, was cited for violation of the basic rule (75/55 zone) and fined $110.
? Mark Wolcott, Anderson, Calif., was cited for not having an operator’s license and fined $185.
? Chris G. Chapman was convicted of possession of alcohol by a minor and fined $500. His driver’s license was suspended for a minimum of 90 days.
Small Claims? NCO Financial Systems, Inc. v. John L. Cook. Money judgment awarded to NCO Financial Systems, Inc. in the amount of $543.07.
Circuit CourtCANYON CITY – The Grant County Circuit Court reported the following fines and judgments:
? Charles R. Hunt Jr., 41, was convicted of one count of assault in the fourth degree, placed on supervised probation for 18 months, ordered to complete 40 hours of community service and fined $633. One count of recklessly endangering another person was dismissed.
? An assault case against Sidney A. Gilham was dismissed Aug. 21 by Judge W.D. Cramer Jr., based on a motion of the district attorney. Gilham originally was accused of one count of third-degree assault and one count of fourth-degree assault in connection with an investigation in the Dale area.
DispatchJohn Day dispatch worked 67 calls during the week of Aug. 25-28, 2008. Along with the various traffic warnings, trespassing, injured animals, noise complaints and juvenile complaints, these calls included:
Law enforcement: Grant County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a dog bite in Prairie City; Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a scam in Mt. Vernon regarding confiscation of personal cars; Sheriff’s deputies responded to two reports of cows on Highway 26, both at the intersection of Highway 395 and at Hall Hill; Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of two missing juvenile males in the Olive Creek area, missing for two days; Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of sexual abuse in Canyon City; Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of two men in a truck trying to give away samples of chemicals; Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of telephone harassment; John Day Police Department responded to a report of child neglect at John Day city park; Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of theft in Long Creek; JD Police responded to a report of a missing bike on SW Brent Street.
Ambulance: John Day ambulance was requested for a transfer to Burns; JD ambulance was requested for an 88-year-old man; JD ambulance was requested for a 64-year-old woman who was very sick; JD ambulance was requested for a 90-year-old woman with high blood pressure and a high pulse; JD ambulance was requested for an elderly man who was unresponsive and unconscious; JD and Mt. Vernon ambulances were requested for an elderly man who possibly had a stroke.
