Local kids compete in rodeo finals

PRINEVILLE – Jacob Legg, Riley Clark, and GW Clark represented Grant County at the Central Oregon Pee Wee Rodeo Association finals last week.

The boys competed at the finals in Prineville Aug. 23. They competed in seven rodeos during the COPWR series in Prineville. The series started in May.

All three boys competed in several events. Legg’s events in the senior division included calf tying, chute dogging, breakaway roping, and team roping. Riley competed in the intermediate division, doing barrels, poles, goat tying, breakaway roping, team roping, steer riding, and bareback riding. GW competed in the junior division, doing the barrels, poles, goat tying, breakaway roping, team roping, and calf riding.

Jacob ended up eighth in the chute dogging in the year-end standings.

Riley was third in the poles, fourth in bareback, fifth in steer riding, fifth in team roping, sixth in breakaway, sixth in barrels, seventh in goats, and third in the all-around. Riley received CD cases, rope bags, a cowhide mirror, portable DVD player for his event results, and a roping dummy and bag for the all around placing. GW ended up first in the barrels, first in poles, second in breakaway, fifth in goats, and first in the all around.

GW received 2 buckles, a quilted horse blanket and a portable DVD player for his event results. He also earned a saddle and coat for the all around.

Riley and GW will compete in one more rodeo in Vale Sept. 13, and then they’re done until next spring.

The Clark boys competed in 15 rodeos this summer, bringing home several all around titles, along with buckles and numerous other awards.
