PRAIRIE CITY – Aug. 27, 2008. Is everyone glad the county fair and the Olympics in China are over? How about all the “Decision 2008” conventions?

As usual, the same three men prepared six tables early this morning, but I understand Iva Gill was already there working.

Later five meals were delivered and 40 came to eat our meal of roast beef, potatoes and carrots cooked in a bag in a roaster, gravy, two-colored coleslaw, beet slices, deviled eggs, deep-dish peach pie and cherry cobbler topped with ice cream.

Flag salute was led by Buzz Harris. Bob McCauley gave the blessing.

The Prairie Drug and Hardware certificate went to GeorgeAnne Williams. Del Lake was the lucky winner as the only one at the birthday table to get Huffman’s Select certificate and had the Main Street Hair Company certificate.

Arthur and Leona Martin were first-timers. I think our chief of police, Randy Oxford, was there for the first time.

Servers were Vivian Rookstool, Lana Abarr, Pam Howard and Louise LaBaugh.

From the nursing home Lorna Askew and Barb Bryant brought Hazel Moorman, Wally Wedde, Joyce Morton, Carl and Ruth Johns, and Mildred Allen. Mildred is recovering from a hip break.

Others who have spent time in the hospital or doctor’s office were Barbara Reynolds, Billy Drinkwater and Marguerite Harris.

I have not mentioned silverware washers for a long time, but today Bonnie Lake and Leone Wenzel were washing the silverware.
