Arrests and citations the Blue Mountain Eagle reports are taken from the logs of area law-enforcement agencies. Every effort is made to report the court disposition of all arrests listed.
Circuit CourtCANYON CITY – The Grant County Circuit Court reported the following fines and judgments:
? Crystal Jane Freniere, 25, was convicted of one count of harassment. She was placed on bench probation for 18 months, ordered to complete 40 hours of community service and fined $233.
Oregon State Police? On Monday, Aug. 25, at about 12:25 p.m., Oregon State Police responded to a report from the owner of the Seneca store that a dog had crossed Highway 395 and onto the property of the Seneca Hotel near the bobcat pen. The dog, described as a small, beagle-type, was heard yelping and then could not be located. No one reported to know who the dog’s owner was. Police advised that they be called if the dog was found injured or if someone reported it missing.
? On Friday, Aug. 29, police observed a spotlight shining out of the passenger-side window of a vehicle as it passed by a deer on County Road 63. The passenger, Bradley Donald Tompkins Jr., 30, Gold Hill, was cited and released for casting artificial light on a game mammal while armed. The driver, Richard A. Deascentis, 32, Medford, was cited and released for aiding in a game violation.
? At about 7:45 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 31, OSP, who had been following “peel out” tire tracks for several miles, stopped a Ford Ranger on Forest Service Road 3930 near Silvies for failing to signal and suspicion of careless driving. The juvenile driver, of Burns, was cited and released for unlawful taking of a buck deer with prohibited method, and the juvenile passenger, also of Burns, was cited and released for aiding in wildlife offense to wit unlawful taking of buck deer. Both were warned on loading and borrowing a big game tag and several other wildlife offenses. The driver was warned for careless driving.
? OSP responded to a reported disturbance at Riverside Mobile Home Park at about midnight on Tuesday, Sept. 2. Numerous minors were found at the residence. At least five fled the scene, but all were caught or boxed in. At about that time, another person fled on foot, jumping a fence into a yard. Chase Kevin Maness, 20, Fruitland, Idaho, was caught and, along with Shane Michael Despain, 20, Lynden, Wash., cited for minor in possession of alcohol by consumption. Two other people were cited for minor in possession of alcohol, and one was cited and released for providing alcohol to minors. Maness was also warned for attempting to elude.
? At about 3:20 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, OSP assisted Sheriff’s deputies with a reported missing motorist traveling on County Road 20 (Middle Fork Road). The motorcyclist was later found in Baker City.
? At about 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, OSP assisted John Day Police in the parking lot at Chester’s Thriftway with two people who were in violation of restraining orders.
Grant County Sheriff? Leslie Church, 47, Prairie City, was cited for violation of the basic rule (101/55 zone).
? Jack Hecht, 57, Bend, was cited for violation of the basic rule (78/55 zone).
? Janis Casto, 49, Eugene, was cited twice for violation of the basic rule (53/35 zone and 70/55 zone) and for failure to yield.
? Sam Gunderson, 20, Henderson, Nev., was cited for minor in possession.
? Robert Murphy, 18, Emmett, Idaho, was cited for minor in possession.
DispatchJohn Day dispatch worked 112 calls during the week of Sept. 1-7, 2008. Along with the various traffic warnings, trespassing, injured animals, noise complaints and juvenile complaints, these calls included:
Law enforcement: John Day Police cited a North Bend man for speeding; Grant County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shattered window at the Canyon City Post Office; an Elgin man was arrested on a Grant County warrant; JD Police responded to a report of a 3-year-old boy who wouldn’t open the door with the car running; JD Police and Sheriff’s deputies responded to a fight at Riverside Mobile Home Park; JD Police responded to a report of a party at the skate park; JD Police cited an Olympia, Wash., woman for speeding; Oregon State Police responded to a report that someone drove off without paying for gas at the Leather’s station.
Ambulance: Prairie City and John Day ambulances were requested for an 87-year-old woman who fell and hit her head; Long Creek amublance was called to transport a 64-year-old woman; JD ambulance was requested for an elderly woman in her 80s with increased confusion and trouble breathing.
