LA GRANDE – The Grant Union soccer team made La Grande’s JV defense work last week.

The Pros put 11 goals on the scoreboard and held La Grande scoreless. Nathan Wunz led the offensive attack with four goals in the game and Henrik Schia had three. Kieron Callahan, David Sprouffske, Francisco Ceja and Husein Umar each added to the score.

Schia earned two assists in the game with both coming on goals by Wunz. Charles McNeil had two assists as well.

Grant Union coach Ken Purnell said despite the high score La Grande’s goalie played a good game.

“Their keeper did an outstanding job,” Purnell said. “He had a lot of great saves. We could have added some more goals if he hadn’t made those saves.”

The ball spent most of the time in La Grande’s half of the field. Grant Union had 54 shots with 32 threatening for goals. La Grande had four shots with one on goal. The Pros’ keeper Bill Sevey only had to earn a single save in the game.

Grant Union will now open Special District 5 play in Burns at 3 p.m. Wednesday. The Pros will then face Umatilla at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13 in their first home game at the Seventh Street Complex.
