Letter: Watch out, Frog Boy

To the Editor:
Sometimes free publicity comes with unintended consequences. Case in point is 6-year-old Cole Gomes, aka Frog Boy, who hails from Enterprise and was featured in a recent edition of the Eagle. Seems he was operating a lucrative frog selling business from his home that was featured in the local newspaper.
The story generated interest from an OSP Fish and Wildlife trooper who contacted the boy’s family after it was determined the frogs he was selling were on a “protected” list and therefore illegal to sell. As the story goes, it appears the trooper did a nice job of handling the situation through education and no citation was issued.
Being an adaptive young entrepreneur, young Cole changed his marketing strategy and now offers frogs for sale that pass statutory muster. But he and his family shouldn’t become complacent. The tax man also reads the newspaper.
