The Grant County Sheriff’s Office reported that on Sept. 7 around 4 p.m. the John Day 911 Center was notified of a motorcycle crash with serious injuries to the operator on Forest Road 16 near the Logan Valley area.
A Grant County Sheriff’s deputy and Oregon State trooper, along with Blue Mountain Hospital ambulances from Seneca and John Day area responded to the crash location.
Patrick McMenamin, 52, of Bend, had been east bound on Forest Road 16 on a 2001 Harley-Davidson motorcycle, when he failed to negotiate a curve and struck a rock. McMenamin was riding with another motorcycle operator, who reported seeing McMenamin thrown airborne after his motorcycle struck the rock. The pair of riders were reportedly on their way to the Granite area by way of back roads.
After being transported to the Blue Mountain Hospital by ground ambulance, McMenamin was flown to St. Charles in Bend by AirLink, where he remains in critical condition.
Deputy McKinley reported that speed was not a factor in the crash.
