CANYON CITY – The Grant County Sheriff’s Office has received a $4,888 grant to purchase a digital camera for use in a patrol vehicle.
The grant came from the Oregon State Sheriffs’ Association, the Oregon Association of Chiefs of Police and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
The camera is one of three that was offered through the grant program to sheriff’s offices statewide, on a first-come, first-served basis. The others went to Linn and Klamath counties.
Grant County Sheriff Glenn Palmer said the intent of the camera is to aid in securing evidence for successful prosecution of driving under the influence of intoxicants (DUII) cases. However, it also can be helpful in documenting other types of crime scenes and officer contacts with the public, he said.
Palmer said the grant gives the department its second camera at no cost to the general fund budget.
