PRAIRIE CITY – The Prairie City gym wasn’t occupied for long last week.

The Panthers swept Huntington in three quick games Sept. 19. The match began at 4 p.m. and was done by shortly after 5.

“I’m really glad we won,” Prairie City’s Caitlin Patten said. “I think we made some mistakes, but all in all we did all right. We had some good serves.”

The Locomotives stayed close in the first and third games, but lost both 25-20. The teams were never separated by more than five points in either game.

Prairie City fell behind 11-8 in the first game before going on a 9-0 run to go up 17-11. Huntington wasn’t able to close the gap and lost the game. The Panthers controlled the third game and never trailed, but they allowed Huntington to stick around.

“We had a little trouble with our passing,” Huntington coach said. “During the first and last games we were with them.”

The second game of the match was a different story. Prairie City led the entire game and used a second 9-0 run to close the game out 25-14. Salem Fast and Sherree Wright served often throughout the match, and they each earned aces in the second game.

“Salem and Sherree had some really strong serves in the match,” Prairie City coach Melissa Woodbury said. “They’ve been doing well this year.”

Prairie City is now 2-1 in High Desert League play. They beat Mitchell and lost to Spray Sept. 12. The Panthers beat Mitchell in four games winning the final three 25-9, 25-8 and 25-22. They then played Spray and lost in five games. Prairie City lost the final game 15-13.

Adrian’s volleyball team will be in Prairie City for a 4 p.m. game Sept. 26.
