Administrative Rules Chapter # 603-011-0265
Sue Gooch, Rules Coordinator, 503-986-4583
Rule Caption:
Requires a negative TB-test result in dairy cattle imported from California. To become effective: September 15, 2008 through March 10, 2009.
Rule Making Action:
Amend: OAR 603-011-0265
Rule Summary
In September 2008, California will loose its Tuberculosis-Free Status for cattle living in the state. As a result, certain classes of cattle will have to be tested for TB before they cross the state’s border. Tuberculosis (TB) is a highly contagious disease easily spread by direct and indirect contact. Oregon rules require TB-testing of imported California cattle used for breeding. However, Oregon rule does not require TB-testing for high-risk neutered cattle (i.e., steers and spayed heifers). This temporary rule is to address the need to protect Oregon cattle from exposure to TB from dairy steers considered high-risk for TB. It requires each animal to have a negative TB-test result less than 60 days before Oregon importation.
