Tigers break longtime losing streak

HUNTINGTON – Grant County teams came up big against Huntington last week.

The Monument/Long Creek/Dayville football team picked up its first win in more than two years Friday, Sept. 26. The Tigers won the game 60-22. They had a 17-game losing streak through the 2006, 2007 and early 2008 season.

Tiger players were excited to be in unfamiliar territory.

“It’s awesome to win,” Gus King of Dayville said.

The Monument/Dayville volleyball team continued the strong play sweeping Huntington 3-0 Friday. They won 25-18, 25-13 and 25-20. The win was their second in a row. They defeated Long Creek in three games Tuesday, Sept. 23. They won 25-14, 25-21 and 25-14.

All Monument/Long Creek/ Dayville teams will play Harper in Dayville Friday, Oct. 3. Football will kick off at 2 p.m., Monument/Dayville volleyball starts at 4 p.m. and Long Creek volleyball starts at 5:30 p.m.

The Long Creek volleyball team didn’t have Monument/ Dayville’s success in Huntington. They lost in three games.
