JOHN DAY – Adult volunteers are urgently needed to help out with the coming annual “Teen Halloween Party.”

The party, an “alcohol and drug-free event,” will be held upstairs at the John Day Elks Lodge from 6-10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, for students in grades 7-12.

Even though the party itself is still a few weeks away, volunteers are needed to come forward now to help get the party off the ground.

Areas especially needed are:

? Organizing the party.

? Assisting with gathering money, prizes and other donations for the party. (Lists of items needed are available.)

? Organizing music for the dance.

? Supervising 20-25 adults the night of the party.

Angie Jones of the Elks Lodge stressed that adults are needed now to get plans for the party moving forward and to also ensure the safety of the teens during the actual party. She encouraged anyone who is willing and able to lend any time and effort at all to please come forward.

“Without the community’s involvement and support, the party won’t happen,” Jones said. The event has been a popular holiday tradition for about 12 years.

Jones said that a haunted house held downstairs in the lodge at the same time and night, is run separately and will go on as planned.
