Editorial: Take a stand, and vote
Published 5:00 pm Tuesday, October 7, 2008
Over the next couple of weeks, the Blue Mountain Eagle will publish editorials endorsing some of the candidates and measures on the Nov. 4 election ballot. The intent is to give readers food for thought – information with which to reflect on the issues and form their own opinions.
Just to clarify, these opinions are the result of interviews and research by the Eagle editor and staff. They do not parrot any company policy or philosophy. Further, our endorsements do not follow a particular party line, but instead seek to identify the best person for the job or the best solution for the problem at hand.
The purpose of our endorsements is not to dictate how you, the readers, should think or vote. Instead we want to explain what went into our opinions, with the hope that this will help readers as they weigh the issues and reach their own conclusions.
If you choose to agree, we hope it is based on your own thoughtful contemplation and experience. If you disagree, we certainly respect that. Participation in the arena of public opinion – even when we agree to disagree – is one of the ways we exercise our democratic rights.
We urge our readers to read, consider, and comment on the issues. But above all, we urge them to vote in the November election. – SC
