GRANT COUNTY – Applications are available now in Grant County high schools for students wishing to apply for the Elks National Foundation’s annual Most Valuable Student scholarship.

The Foundation will give 500 four-year awards in the nationwide 2009 competition. Monetary awards at the local, district, state and national levels exceed $2 million.

To be eligible to apply, students must be in the 2009 graduating class of a high school or its equivalent, be U.S. citizens and reside in the jurisdiction of the Elks Lodge where they are applying.

Applications are judged on the basis of financial need, leadership and scholarship. Experience shows that students who qualify for final consideration usually have a scholarship rating of 90 percent or better and stand in the upper 5 percent of their class. Interviews are no longer required.
