JOHN DAY – Alice Carlson of “Alice’s Inspirations” is a photographer who “does it all.”

Carlson is the new Artist of the Month at Sterling Savings Bank. Samples of her work, primarily wildlife and outdoor scenes, can be seen in the bank’s lobby throughout October.

According to Carlson, her “passion,” as she calls her lifelong love of photography, has been encouraged and supported by family and friends. Even as a child, she would arrange items and set up scenes to capture on film with her camera, an early Polaroid model.

Carlson does all her own printing, processing, matting and framing. She solicits the skills of a couple of woodcrafters, Jim Burril and Rod Rookstool for some of the frames.

Framed photographs of Carlson’s work are also on display and for sale at Nydam’s Ace Hardware and the Grant County Chamber of Commerce. She frequents area craft shows and fairs and will be at the Harvest Festival at the fairgrounds Oct. 11.

She can also be found in the kitchen at the Outpost Restaurant in John Day, where she cooks three nights a week.

Carlson, of “Alice’s Inspirations,” can be reached by phone, 575-3680 or e-mail, (aldraco420@yahoo.com).
