MONUMENT – Your usual correspondent, Carolyn Trujillo, had a little mishap and was taken to Blue Mountain Hospital for a “look see.” I’m pleased to report she is doing better and will be in Blue Mountain Nursing Home for a short stay to regain her strength and wit.
Our local thoughts have been consumed with the loss of our lifelong resident and friend, Jack Sweek. He passed away at St. Charles Hospital on Sept. 28 from complications following surgery. He was buried Friday, Oct. 3 at the Monument Cemetery. There was a huge gathering of friends and family for support and celebration of his life. He will be greatly missed in the area.
The invasion of the hunters has arrived and if you ever thought of a traffic jam in Monument, it could happen this week. Here’s hoping they all have a safe trip and good luck. My support goes out to the deer; seems the odds are stacked against them.
Our Tuesday dinner was attended by 46. We had chicken-fried steak, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans and birthday cake. We invite visitors to join us on any Tuesday they should happen to be in this area.
Flu shots will be given this next Tuesday right after the dinner for those who need them.
Our Monument bus has been busy with a trip to Heppner and a planned trip to Condon on the 23rd of the month. Our usual trip will go to John Day for shopping on the 9th and a stop will be made at the senior center for lunch.
