Justice Court
CANYON CITY – The Grant County Justice Court reported the following fines and judgments:
? Jose Castillo, Sparks, Nev., was cited for exceeding length and fined $97.

? Anthony Barone, Everett, Wash., was cited for violation of the basic rule (70/55 zone) and fined $110.
? Chandra Wright, Olympia, Wash., was cited for violation of the speed law (51/25 zone) and fined $185.
? Steven Wolff, Redding, Calif., was cited for not having a driver’s license and fined $242. For failing to appear, he was fined $25 and his driver’s license was suspended.
? James Robey Jr., Bend, was cited for violation of the basic rule (79/55 zone) and fined $242. For failing to appear, he was fined $25 and his driver’s license was suspended.
? Martin Walker, Prineville, was cited for driving while suspended and fined $427. For failing to appear, he was fined $25 and his driver’s license was suspended.
? Amber Steinborn, John Day, was cited for driving while suspended and fined $427. For failing to appear, she was fined $25 and her driver’s license was suspended.
? Dewayne Turner, John Day, was fined $242 each, for two citations of violation of the basic rule (81/55 zone and 79/55 zone).
? Craig Rutledge, Gold Hill, was cited for hunting within city limits and fined $299.
? Vicki Baker, Eugene, was cited for violation of the basic rule (74/55 zone) and fined $110.
? Marshall Smith, John Day, was convicted of possession of alcohol by a minor. He failed to appear and was fined $500. His driver’s license was also suspended.
? Devin Elliott, John Day, was convicted of misdemeanor disorderly conduct, fined $247, placed on bench probation for 12 months and ordered to perform 40 hours of community service.
Small Claims
? Benji and Tina Lippert v. Curtis Cody. Money judgment awarded to Benji and Tina Lippert in the amount of $2,137.78.
? Credit Services of Oregon v. Debbie Sue Hale. Money judgment awarded to Credit Services of Oregon in the amount of $256.01.
Circuit Court
CANYON CITY – The Grant County Circuit Court reported the following fines and judgments:
? Erik Allen Giffen, 22, was convicted of three counts of second-degree failure to appear with the following sentences: 30 days jail and $173 fine; 30 days and $133 fine; 30 days and $133 fine; to run concurrent with previously imposed sentences.
? Patrick Darrell Cory, 34, was convicted of two counts of second-degree failure to appear. For each count, he was placed on bench probation for 12 months, ordered to complete 20 hours of community service, jailed for 10 days and fined $383. The sentences were to run consecutive to previously imposed sentences. He was also convicted of one count of giving false information for issuance/service of citation/warrant and placed on bench probation for 12 months, ordered to complete 40 hours of community service, jailed for 10 days and fined $383; and one count of possession of less than one ounce of marijuana, for a fine of $353. One count of operating a vehicle without driving privileges and one for driving uninsured were dismissed.
Oregon State Police
? At 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5, Oregon State Police assisted Grant County Sheriff’s Office with an investigation of trespassing on private property north of Monument. Brothers Andrew Wedding, 21, and Brandon Wedding, 24, both of Monument, were cited for criminal trespassing and littering in a waterway, and for providing alcohol to a minor. Several other people at the Wedding residence were cited for minor in possession of alcohol.
? About 2:35 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, police responded to a report of a vehicle crash on Highway 395 north of Silvies. Police said a southbound vehicle drifted onto the shoulder, went out of control across all lanes, and struck the northbound embankment at two locations. At the John Day Police Department later, OSP arrested Eugene Morris Peterson, 63, of Pinole, Calif., for driving under the influence of intoxicants and cited him for failing to maintain lane.
? On Saturday, Oct. 4, OSP cited and released Joshua Lee Hamilton, 30, of Kimberly, for hunting on the enclosed land of another on the Rudio Creek Ranch.
? Robert J. Unger, 73, of Rainier, was to be cited and released for taking deer in a prohibited area-public roadway after phone contact by OSP at his home on Oct. 4.
? On Sunday, Oct. 5, Ricky Dale Weickum Sr., 51, and a 17-year-old, both of John Day, were cited and released for hunting on the enclosed land of another and for hunting from a public roadway – County Road 18 – on land owned by Prairie Wood Products. The deer was seized.
? On Thursday, Oct. 9, Patrick Eugene Helleck, 26, of Hillsboro, and a 15-year-old from Redmond, were cited and released for criminal trespassing on the Izee Ranch. Helleck was also cited and released for criminal mischief.
? About 2:30 a.m. on Oct. 11, OSP stopped a vehicle on Highway 26 just west of John Day. Timothy Ryan Kirk, 19, of John Day, was arrested for DUII and lodged in Grant County Jail. He was also cited for driving while suspended violation and failing to maintain a safe distance from emergency vehicles.
? About 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10, OSP assisted Sheriff’s deputies with a complaint in Mt. Vernon. Jeff A. Furtney, 36, of Mt. Vernon was cited for driving while suspended and operating an ATV on a public highway.
? OSP responded to a report of a grass fire near West Bench and Bumpy roads about 3:30 p.m. Oct. 11. John Day, Canyon City and Mt. Vernon fire departments responded as well as a Bureau of Land Management fire crew, while OSP assisted with traffic control on West Bench Road.
? On Sunday, Oct. 12, Zackary T. Dowers, 23, and Roxanne L. Dowers, 43, of Bend were cited and released for hunting on the enclosed land of another, on the Ken Kellogg property off County Road 15. Harold David Dowers, 47, also of Bend, was cited and released for criminal trespassing. The deer, a rifle and a deer tag were seized.
? About 3:30 p.m. Oct. 12, OSP responded to a single vehicle crash on Highway 26 at Bear Creek Road. The rear axle on a westbound vehicle broke in two, causing it to slide sideways and crash into an embankment on the northside. The occupants were not injured and the vehicle was towed from the scene.
Grant County Sheriff
? Roberta Holder, 56, Portland, was cited for violation of the basic rule (55/35 zone) and a warning for expired registration.
? Brandon Cross, 18, Mt. Vernon, was cited for driving uninsured.
? Charles Lowe, 57, San Luis Obispo, Calif., was cited for failing to obey a traffic control device.
? Matthew Rossiter, 31, Junction City, was cited for violation of the basic rule (50/30 zone).
? Rodney Wangler, 43, Brush Prairie, Wash., was cited for violation of the basic rule (75/55 zone).
? Serena Dancer, 40, John Day, was cited for failing to obey a traffic control device.

Law enforcement: Oregon Department of Transportation responded to a report that a section of Highway 395 north of Ukiah had sunk; Grant County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a stolen U-Haul; John Day Police responded to a report of theft at Jackson Oil; Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of theft in Canyon City; JD Police and Sheriff’s deputies arrested a Hillsboro man for driving under the influence of intoxicants; Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of horses being neglected on Gibson Lane; police in Pendleton arrested a Salem woman on a Grant County warrant; JD Police responded to a report of a man harassing and yelling at a person in a work vehicle; John Day dispatch took a report of a stolen U-Haul recovered in California; JD Police arrested a Bend woman for theft at Cottage Treasures; Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of three horses running around on Highway 395 north of Mt. Vernon near Beech Creek; Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of animal abuse in Mt. Vernon; Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of mail fraud in Seneca; JD Police responded to a report of disorderly conduct at the Best Western; Sheriff’s deputies cited a Mt. Vernon man for misdemeanor driving while suspended; Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a disagreement over a dog in Mt. Vernon; John Day Fire Department responded to a grass fire in the Valley View Drive area.
Ambulance: John Day ambulance was requested for a 49-year-old woman with chest pains; Prairie City ambulance was requested for a man who had passed out; JD ambulance was requested for an elderly woman having seizures; PC and JD ambulances were requested for a man who had an open leg fracture after unloading his 4-wheeler; JD ambulance was requested for a 93-year-old woman with difficulty breathing; JD ambulance was requested for an elderly woman who was not well, ill, dizzy and not coherent; JD ambulance was requested for a man who had fallen; JD ambulance was requested for an 85-year-old woman who had fallen and had a large knot on her forehead; JD ambulance was requested for a 100-year-old woman; JD ambulance was requested for disoriented male with low blood sugar.
