Letter: Mixed emotions

To the Editor:

The recent bailout is something that brings with it mixed emotions about what was/is the right thing to do and what will be the longterm effects. It evokes criticism from some and agreement from others. It is my opinion that Representative Greg Walden didn’t approach this from the easy chair; he was sitting straight up and paying attention.

Rep. Walden didn’t approve the first plan put forth by President Bush because he knew there were things in it that weren’t right. I’m quite certain that he researched all the facts pertaining to the bailout. I know that he spoke to business people in Oregon, he did his work on the ground, and he looked at the situation from every angle. He considered taxpayer protection.

It wasn’t an easy choice for Greg. He voted the way he did because he decided it was in the best interest of all the citizens of Oregon and the United States. Now he and the rest of Congress have the task of overseeing the bailout and returning the financial community and Wall Street to fiscal accountability so that the effort to return economic stability to the U.S. will not be in vain.
