Obituary: Hilda ‘Juanita’ Lyons

Hilda ‘Juanita’ (Schroeder) Lyons, 90, of Wilsonville, died Oct. 10, 2008. A graveside service was held Tuesday, Oct. 14 at Meridian Cemetery in Wilsonville.

She was born April 25, 1918 in Wilsonville. She graduated from West Linn High School in 1937, where she was valedictorian of her class.

In 1938 she married Austin Lyons. They lived in John Day for 28 years where she worked as a timber clerk for the United States Forest Service. They also ran a family business, AB Lyons Auto and Heavy Equipment Repairs.

They lived in Alaska and Washington in the 1960s and 70s, moving back to the Portland area in 1980.

She was a regular guest speaker at Wilsonville grade schools, sharing her life experiences and Wilsonville history. She was also involved in organizing and escorting all the trips for the local community center and in 2000, received an award for “Outstanding Volunteer of Clackamas County.”

She was also a worldwide traveler, whose hobbies included reading and raising flowers.

Survivors include her sons, Keith Allen Lyons of Woodburn and Terry Bruce Lyons of Wilsonville; daughter, Cathy Mae Hall of Florence; six children and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Austin Lyons in 1995 and a sister, Geneva Christina Critchfield.
