PRAIRIE CITY – Caitlin Patten was on a streak last week.
Patten led the Prairie City volleyball team in serves during a 3-1 victory against Harper Oct. 10. She had 28 serves without a single service error and added a couple of aces along the way.
Patten helped the Panthers in their four game victory. Prairie City won 26-24, 25-14 and 25-17. However they lost the second game 25-19. The Panthers struggled with mental mistakes in the second game. They were called several times for net violations.
“In the second game they kind of quit playing as a team,” Prairie City coach Melissa Woodbury said. “It was a little of everything, but they were in the net a lot. They’ve never been in the net as much. There were so many violations. I’m not saying the calls were wrong. It was just tough.”
The Panthers bounced back from a close first game win and second game loss to take the third and fourth games. They were led by Katie Cary, Amanda DePaulo and Reagan Emmel on the offensive end. Sheree Wright had nine service receiving passes.
Prairie City faces Jordan Valley at 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17 in Jordan Valley. Woodbury said it should be a close match.
“I talked to some people from Dayville about Jordan Valley,” Woodbury said. “Jordan Valley really gets up. They’re not super strong with setting or hitting, but they seem to find the holes. We’re going to try and work on our defense and covering our openings.”
The Panthers will also take part in the Dayville/Monument’s Tiger Tournament Saturday, Oct. 18. Games start at 9 a.m.
