JOHN DAY – The Halloween spirit arrives early this year in the form of a hilarious and spooky play at Grant Union High School.

The GUHS drama class will present “Teenage Night of Living Horror” 7 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, Oct. 29-30, on stage in the old gym.

Fans of classic horror flicks like “Night of the Living Dead” or “Cemetery High” will get a kick out of this shriek and shudder laugh-fest.

In the play written by Tim Kelly, Howie (Connor Smith), Louise (Shaylee Joslin), Gary (Kieron Callahan) and Pheobe (Brianna Murphy) are in charge of “Ghoul Night,” the annual senior class party. They locate an abandoned farmhouse by the old graveyard.

It turns out that the house was once inhabited by the creepy Dr. Thanatos (Nathan Roy) who tried to reanimate the dead. Vivian (Morgan Cleaver) and Anne (Kaitlyn Webb) show up, determined to destroy the party.

Enter a grim farmer (Zach Mendenhall) who warns the kids it’s dangerous to stay. We soon discover why – ghouls! What follows is ghouls vs. students.

Before seeing this show, audience and cast members should take a Scream Aptitude test. The spoof races to a spine-chilling and hilarious curtain.

Other members of the cast are: Nurse Payne (Elyse Lemaire), runaways: Beagle (Gabe McKern), Debbie (Missy Hale) and Sally (Karina Hoffman); a lost bridesmaid (Alex Krauss); lost hikers: Tom (Nolan Humbird and Ben (Alex Andrews); students: Robert (Forest Hughes) , Patty (Asya Hensley) and ghouls: Nick Piazza, Charlie Fronapel, Daniel Soupir, Zach Gagnon, Jake Reynolds, and Katelyn Page. The play is directed by Julie Reynolds.

Tickets will be sold at the door and cost $4 for adults and $2 for students. Doors open at 6:40 p.m.
