Summit crowd chips in for a good cause…

People attending the Grant County Economic Summit put their money where their mouths were, digging into their wallets for an impromptu fund-raiser.
The meeting was held in the Canyon City Community Hall theater. The building, a former Masonic hall, is being remodeled and the community is raising match money to secure a grant for the work.
Summit organizer Les Zaitz had asked the crowd to consider “what we can do right here in Grant County, with what we have.” Passing the hat – really a coffee container – seemed a fitting demonstration of that concept.
When all the donations were in the total came to about $300, according to city recorder Tammy Bremner.
