Youth, leaders cited for efforts in 4-H programs

MT. VERNON – Leaders, members, families and donors were recognized at the annual 4-H Achievement and Appreciation Day.

Marley Winkelman and Daniel DesJardin, 4-H Ambassadors, were hosts at the event, held in the Mt. Vernon Community Center.

Special accolades went to Brenda Coley for her outstanding service and contributions in time, efforts and investment in the 4-H youth program of Grant County.

The 4-H members receiving special recognition included:

? Marley Winkelman, recipient of the Sam Keerins Leadership Memorial award sponsored by Oliver Keerins, and the Outstanding Citizenship Award sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary.

? Hannah Deming, the Jr. 4-H member citizenship award, sponsored by the Community Solutions Inc. of Grant County.

? Amy Black and Kailey Neal, outstanding Jr. 4-H members sponsored by the Grant County 4-H Leaders Association.

? Cheyenne Molt, outstanding Intermediate 4-H members, sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary, and also Outstanding Intermediate 4-H Livestock member.

? Jake Reynolds, Outstanding Senior Livestock member. The Livestock rotating trophy is sponsored by Blue Mountain Angus of John Day.

The Outstanding 4-H Home Economics/Expressive Arts member went to Marley Winkelman. The Home Economics/Expressive Arts rotating trophy is sponsored by the Grant County Family, Community, Education Council. Along with the rotating trophies each person received a plaque sponsored by 4-H Leaders Association.

Project medals were awarded to 4-H members who excelled in their project work as well as leadership and citizenship activities. Receiving medals were Trevor Brown for his breeding sheep project, Garth Neal for his wood project, Mikeala Donahue for her market sheep project, and Hannah Deming for her market sheep project. These medals are sponsored by the Friends of Oregon 4-H, Oregon 4-H Foundation and the Grant County 4-H Leaders Association.

Outstanding record book recognition went to Amy Black, Jaylynn Bishop, Jerry Carter, Hannah Deming, Samantha Molt, Kailey Neal, Tucker Wright, Trevor Brown, Garrett Carniglia, Jonathon Coley, Joely Davis, Justin Larson, Soren Larson, Cheyenne Molt, Garth Neal, Jake Reynolds, & Marley Winkelman.

Receiving first-year leader recognition were Megan Brandsma, Sharon Livingston, Mark Manning, Sherry Molt and Leland Turner.

Five-year leader recognition went to Penny Black, Nancy Carr, Deanna Maley, Beth and Jim Spell .

Mark Bagett, Linda Brown, Pete Teague & Art Walton received recognition for 10 years of 4-H youth work. Also noted were Elaine Husted and Jennie Mund, 15 years; Jackie Osborne, 16 years; Joanne Keerins, 17 years; Gary Adams, a 4-H leader for 20 years; Jan Bauer and Gary Adams, 22 years; Margaret Lemon, 24 years; Dennis Reynolds, 32 years and Julie Reynolds, 33 years.
