Letter: Millions wasted on drug treatment?

To the Editor:
I am for everything on Measure 57 except for treatment of certain offenders (drug users). History has shown that most drug offenders return to their addiction; so what is the point of spending tax payers money on these useless treatments when other criminals go untreated, i.e. prostitutes and those who use prostitutes?
For 40 years or more “millions” have been spent on trying to educate the public on the dangers of street drugs. Still, the problem is worse than ever.
Punishment for these drug crimes (including recreational users) should be so harsh for the user that they would think twice about experimenting with them. Use the “millions” used for going after the drug lords to build special institutions used only for drug offenders. Bring our National Guard into play by stationing them at known places where drugs and money are exchanged.
When a market is gone a product is no longer produced.
So I am voting no on 57 and yes on 61.
