MONUMENT – This will be my last day as your temporary reporter. Sylvia Cockrell will assume this job in the future to fill in for Carolyn Trujillo. She will be great!
Our senior dinner was attended by 50. We had hamburgers, french fries, cookies and apple cobbler.
The gift certificate from Len’s Drugs went to Donna Campbell; La Verda Cox received the certificate from Chester’s Thriftway; our Monument bus pass was given to Frances Arneson; and Dale Martin from Long Creek got the free meal. We thank these sponsors for their support in allowing us to give these certificates.
Eight members of this community took the bus ride to Condon and enjoyed dinner with the seniors of that area. The meal was roast pork and was very good. The day was pretty and the trip enjoyable.
A meeting was held on Oct. 23 to decide the fate of the Monument lookout tower. Due to the age and poor condition of the tower, it was decided to take it down. It is a landmark of this area, but it is a safety issue.
Have you wondered about the economic climate of Monument? I could say that our stocks are still roaming so drive careful to avoid a crash! Interest rate is down; deer hunting is over, but we look for a sharp upturn with elk season coming soon. Banks unchanged, still don’t have one. Housing market is up sharply; had a sale this past week. Guess we are as good or maybe better than the rest of the country.
