PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Democrat John Kroger has been elected Oregon’s new attorney general.

With 16 percent of the vote reported, Kroger led by more than 75 percent.

There was little doubt going into Nov. 4 that he would win the state office. Kroger, who has worked as a federal prosecutor and professor at Lewis & Clark Law School, received both the Democratic and Republican nominations.

He faced token oppostion from Working Families candidate Ashlee Albies, Pacific Green candidate Walter Brown and Constitution candidate James Leuenberger.

Kroger campaigned on a platform of stricter methamphetamine enforcement, holding polluters accountable and defending civil rights.
