Weather service: October temps chilly

PENDLETON – Temperatures at John Day averaged slightly colder than normal during the month of October, according to NOAA’s National Weather Service.
The average temperature was 48.6 degrees which was 1.1 degrees below normal. High Temperatures averaged 65 degrees, which was 1.2 degrees below normal. The highest was 89 degrees on Oct. 1. Low temperatures averaged 32.1 degrees, which was 1.0 degree below normal. The lowest was 18 degrees on Oct 12.
There were 19 days with the low temperature below 32 degrees.
Precipitation totaled 0.52 inches during October, which was 0.33 inches below normal. Measurable precipitation – at least .01 inch – was received on six days with the heaviest, 0.23 inches reported on Oct. 5.
Precipitation this year has reached 8.63 inches, which is 2.01 inches below normal. In the past six months, the total precipitation at John Day has been 3.76 inches, which is 2.35 inches below normal.
The outlook for November from NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center calls for near normal temperatures and near normal precipitation. Normal highs for John Day during November are 49.6 degrees and normal lows are 28.1 degrees. The 30-year normal precipitation is 1.44 inches.
