Prairie City beat the Cowboys 63-47 in the championship to win the Prairie City Tip-Off Tournament last season. However, it was a different story when the two teams met in the championship this year. The Panthers fell 67-53 to North Lake Saturday, Dec. 6. North Lake entered this season ranked 10th in the state.

Prairie City coach Ryan Gerry said his team didn’t get off to a good start on Saturday.

“The difference between the games was that we came out really slow to start,” Gerry said. “It was 21-4 in the first quarter. It wasn’t really turnovers. They just kept pushing and we were not adjusting on defense especially on our transition defense.”

Brandon Crisler earned a double-double and led the Panthers with 27 points and 10 rebounds. He also had three steals. Dylan Hendriksen had 17 points and seven rebounds in the game.

Prairie City beat the Grant Union JV team 57-32 Friday, Dec. 5 to earn a spot in the championship. Panther freshmen Brady Doty had four points in the game against Grant Union.

“The game against Grant Union allowed kids on the bench to get in the game,” Gerry said.

Prairie City started High Desert League games against Mitchell Tuesday, Dec. 9. Readers can check www.myeaglenews.com for updates. Prairie City will play in Adrian Dec. 12 and Jordan Valley Dec. 13.

Gerry said the team will be watching tape from the tournament’s games to help prepare for the upcoming games.
