Arrests and citations the Blue Mountain Eagle reports are taken from the logs of area law-enforcement agencies. Every effort is made to report the court disposition of all arrests listed.

Justice CourtCANYON CITY – The Grant County Justice Court reported the following fines and judgments:

? Kevin Huffman, La Grande, was cited for violation of the basic rule (70/55 zone) and fined $145.

? Robin Nelson, Eagle Point, was cited for violation of the speed law (50/30 zone) and fined $110.

? Lyle Gibby, Stayton, was cited for violation of the basic rule (75/55 zone) and fined $145.

? Peggy Asmussen, Burns, was cited for violation of the basic rule (74/55 zone) and fined $110.

? Clay Tanler, Madras, was cited for burning without a permit and fined $128.

? Zackery Swindlehurst, Unity, was cited for violation of the basic rule (73/55 zone) and fined $110.

Small Claims? Sharon Wood v. Denice Murrill. Money judgment awarded to Sharon Wood in the amount of $2,020.82.

? Larry Burton dba Burton Oil Heating v. Charley Moore. Money judgment awarded to Larry Burton in the amount of $457.

? Ray Klein Inc. v. Mark D. Emery. Money judgment awarded to Ray Klein Inc. in the amount of $1,463.70

Circuit CourtCANYON CITY – The Grant County Circuit Court reported the following fines and judgments:

? Harold Scott Wells, 34, was convicted of one count of violation of wildlife laws with culpable mental state. He was jailed for two days, placed on bench probation for 18 months, ordered to complete 40 hours of community service and fined $483.

? Timothy Ryan Kirk, 19 was convicted of one count of violation driving while suspended or revoked and fined $494. One count of driving under the influence of intoxicants was diverted and a count of failure to maintain a safe distance from an emergency vehicle or ambulance was dismissed.

Kirk was also convicted of one count of a minor attempting to purchase alcohol and fined $417. His driver’s license was also suspended for one year.

? Richard A. Deascentis, 32, was convicted of one count of felon in possession of a firearm. He was jailed for five days, placed on bench probation for 18 months, ordered to complete 80 hours of community service and fined $583. A count of violation of restrictions on shining artificial light on a game mammal while in or near a vehicle and while in possession of a firearm, was dismissed.

John Day PoliceJohn Day Police responded to a report of a fight at the Grubsteak Bar and Grill. A John Day Ambulance also was dispatched, and a man who had been injured was transported to Blue Mountain Hospital with facial injuries. JD Police are investigating the incident.

Oregon State Police? Oregon State Police responded to a report of a dog trying to kill a deer in a pasture on East Highway 26 about 4:15 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4. Police found and put down a severely injured deer. A description of the dog was obtained and the investigation is ongoing.

? About 12:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, OSP responded to a report of a reckless driver on Highway 26 near Prairie City. The vehicle was found at Blue Mountain Nursing Home. Police took information from the driver for a citizen citation.

? About 5:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, OSP stopped a vehicle for failure to maintain lane on Highway 26 at South Fork Road. Terry L. Craig, 42, of Dayville, was charged with DUII-alcohol, cited for open container of alcohol and taken to Grant County Jail.

? OSP received a report on a reckless driver in Mt. Vernon about 7:20 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5. Police assisted Sheriff’s deputies in arresting Bryan S. Cates, 40, at his home in Mt. Vernon. Cates was charged with DUII, reckless driving and resisting arrest, and was lodged in Grant County Jail.

? At about 1:15 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, OSP conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for failure to yield near NW Lyons and West Main streets. Christopher P. Schuetze, 34, of John Day, was arrested for DUII and taken to jail.

? OSP observed illegal hunting activity in Kimberly Orchards at about 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6. When police attempted to stop a vehicle there, the driver sped up and tried to elude police on a dirt road in the orchard. The vehicle stopped and the occupants tried to flee on foot. Arrested and lodged in Grant County Jail were: the driver, Osiel Sandoval-Guerrero, 23, for felony attempt to elude, taking deer in closed season and unlawful hunting with aid of artificial light; and Martin Sandoval-Guerrero, 26, and Fidel Sandoval Barajas, 33, each for taking deer in closed season and unlawful hunting with aid of artificial light. Sheriff’s deputies helped OSP try to find a fourth passenger. A search of the vehicle yielded two loaded rifles, one loaded shotgun, a spotlight and a freshly killed mule deer buck.

DispatchJohn Day dispatch worked 135 calls during the week of Dec. 1-7, 2008. Along with the various traffic warnings, trespassing, injured animals, noise complaints and juvenile complaints, these calls included:

Law enforcement: John Day Police Department responded to a report of a possible scam attempt at the United Methodist Church; John Day Dispatch took a report of trespassing on Adams Drive; Grant County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a noninjury slide on West Bench Road; Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of an assault in the Izee-Paulina area; Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of missing cattle in the Ritter area; JD Police responded to a report of a stolen bike in Riverside Mobile Home Park; JD Police responded to a report of a 12-year-old boy harassing another boy; JD Police responded to a report of an abandoned recreational vehicle; Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a license plate found on Highway 395 at Magone Lake Road; Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a horse on Highway 26 near the John Day River Veterinary Clinic; JD Police received information on a fraud on Bridge Street; Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of theft of parts at Barrietua Storage Rental; Oregon State Police responded to a report of cows on Highway 402 at Cupper Creek; Sheriffs deputies responded to a report of a two-car accident in Canyon City; Oregon State Police responded to a report of a truck broken down near the Grant County Courthouse; John Day Public Works was called for a water problem at the wastewater plant; Mt. Vernon Public Works responded to a report of a water line break on Aslin Avenue; Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a truck parked with no one around and fresh blood all over it, on U.S. Forest Roads 13 and 2738; JD Police responded to a report of criminal mischief at the Grant County Historical Museum.

Ambulance: John Day ambulance and Sheriff’s deputies responded to an unresponsive woman; JD ambulance was dispatched for a very ill person; JD ambulance did a transport from Fox to Blue Mountain Hospital; JD ambulance was dispatched for a woman who had fallen and couldn’t get up; JD and Seneca ambulances were requested for a 70-year-old man with difficulty breathing; JD ambulance was requested for an elderly woman who was ill and possibly dehydrated; JD ambulance was paged for a possible broken leg; JD ambulance was requested for a man who was not feeling well and about to pass out.
