MONUMENT – On Dec. 2nd, Monument seniors, friends and neighbors enjoyed a delicious meal of tacos with all the ‘trimmings,’ plus brownies and peaches to complement it. Everybody went home pretty satisfied as they ate one of the meals that can boast having all the four food groups.

After eating so much turkey on the last week, a taco meal was definitely appreciated. Diane Gienger received the Thriftway gift certificate; B.A. Robbins, the free meal coupon; and Barb Cummings, the free bus trip.

Marva Walker put together the birthdays of local folks in a calendar that sells for $1. The calendars are available at the senior center. We thank Marva for all her generous work for the Monument seniors.

We also want to thank the Hoodenpyl family for coming to help out with clearing the tables after the meal again. We truly admire these young people who do everything so diligently.

You probably have read about the vicious dog attacks that have left many people maimed. I can commiserate because I have been bitten by dogs many times.

I was in church in Bolivia and a small dog came in. I prodded it to get out, with a quiet voice, but the dog turned around and bit my finger! The dog ran away as I tried to follow him to find out if he had a rabies vaccination. I never found him and I had to have rabies shots. I never could feel comfortable when I saw a dog walking into the church after that. Bolivian dogs are everywhere and one time I counted 28 on a one-mile stretch. Nasty ones are left to roam from dusk to dawn to protect homes and I learned not to walk through the streets where the vicious dogs looked like they owned the roads. We all have to be extremely careful when approaching a dog, even in church!
