Humbolt hosts 2008 Grant County Elks Hoop Shoot

CANYON CITY – The 2008 Grant County Elks Hoop Shoot drew quite a crowd at Humbolt Elementary School.
The shoot was held Saturday, Dec. 6, at Humbolt Elementary School. More than 200 kids turned out for the event. The contest involved 135 girls and 128 boys for a total of 263 participants.
The first-place finishers, in their respective age groups, of the Grant County Hoop Shoot are qualified to participate in the District Elks Hoop Shoot in Burns on Jan. 31. The second-place finishers will be alternates and will participate in the District Hoop Shoot only if the respective first-place finishers are unable to attend.
The Grant County Elks Hoop Shoot was directed by Paul Smith and assisted by John Day Elks Exalted Ruler Garth Leighton and Elks members Rhonda Burdick, Dan Goldblatt, Marvin Rynearson, Kenny Delano, Gary Miller, Tom Bupp, Tim Cooley, and Chris Maynard. Also assisting with the Hoop Shoot was Gretchen Wilson.
Smith said the shoot wouldn’t have been as successful without the help of Humbolt Elementary and Grant Union athletic director Curt Shelley.
