CANYON CITY – Area kids can take part in an array of animal science projects available through the Oregon 4-H program.

In some programs, youths raise market or breeding animals – beef cattle, sheep, swine, dairy cows, and goats. They also can learn about horsemanship or raise guinea pigs, doves, rabbits or even guide dogs for the blind.

In addition, a veterinary science project is available for 4-H members who have completed the first steps of a 4-H Animal Science Advancement Program, or who are in the 7th grade or higher and have had some work with animals, or have completed a life science course in school. Members do not need to own an animal, but must have one available to study temperature, pulse rate, respiration, and other factors.

Youth or volunteers who would like to participate in 4-H projects should contact the Grant County 4-H office, 575-1911 or drop by the office in the basement of the County Courthouse.
