ADRIAN – The Prairie City basketball teams had a rough time in the east last week.
The Panthers boys and girls teams both fell to Jordan Valley and Adrian. The teams played Adrian Friday, Dec. 12, and Jordan Valley Dec. 13.
Prairie City’s boys lost 45-36 to Adrian in a hard-fought game. The Panthers struggled on second attempts in the game. They were able to get the rebounds, but short shots weren’t falling for the team.
Brandon Crisler managed a double-double with 24 points and 16 rebounds. Dylan Hendriksen had 12 rebounds and nine points.
“We couldn’t finish the easy shots,” Prairie City boys coach Ryan Gerry said. “The shots were all in and out. Brandon and Dylan had several put-back attempts.”
The boys weren’t as close with Jordan Valley. The Mustangs won 71-49. Jordan Valley had a size advantage with three six-foot-six-inch-tall players on the starting lineup. Those three combined for 41 points in the game.
The Panthers went to the outside to work around the Mustangs’ height, but it wasn’t enough. Prairie City had nine three-pointers in the game. Marshall Meacham had two three-pointers for six points in the game.
Crisler led the team with 19 points, and Hendriksen had 18 of his own.
“It’s easy to see why (Jordan Valley) is ranked fifth in the state,” Gerry said. “We played well, but Jordan Valley is definitely a good team.”
The Prairie City girls fell 57-32 to Adrian and 53-30 to Jordan Valley.
However, both teams earned wins west of Prairie City Thursday Dec. 9. The boys beat Mitchell 66-18. Hendriksen led the team with 22 points. Meacham had 19 points, Brady Dody earned 12 and Crisler ended the game with eight. The girls picked up a big 48-20 victory against Mitchell.
Both teams tried to even their High Desert League records at 2-2 when they faced Ukiah Tuesday, Dec. 16, in a game that finished past press time. The Prairie City boys and girls teams will play in the Dayville Tournament Friday and Saturday, Dec. 19-20. The Panthers will play at 3 p.m.
