Lloyd Leon Turney, 73, of John Day, died Feb. 1, 2009.

Mr. Turney was born June 14, 1935 on a ranch near Condon to Lloyd L. and Roxie O. Turney. He grew up there, graduating from Condon High School. He participated in track, with some of his running records still standing throughout Central Oregon.
He married DixieLee (Sipe) Turney in 1954. They lived at the ranch for several years. The couple lived in John Day for the past 15 years, owning Dark Horse Roundup antiques.
He worked at Hyster Company Tech Center in Portland, and then bought a resort on Odell Lake. He also worked on Willamette Pass during wintertime.

Eventually he returned to his ranching roots: managing ranches, buckarooing on the desert and enjoying the camaraderie of his cowboy friends. Later he spent summers haying and was an avid member of The Wilderness Trailriders.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Dixie; mother, Roxie; sons, Rex, Ross and Jason, and their families, all of Bend; and daughter, Cally Horn and her family of Wenatchee, Wash.
He was preceded in death by his oldest son, Casey; his father, Lloyd; and sister, Lynne Hamill.
