POOL & PARKS

When it comes to summer recreation, the John Day area has plenty in the way of swimming, softball, Little League baseball, picnicking or just dropping a line in a fishing hole.

The Gleason Pool at John Day City Park and the Seventh Street Complex are a couple of places to go when the sun heats up.

The Gleason Park Pool and City Park are next to each other at 250 N.W. Canton St., right beside the Kam Wah Chung Museum. The pool, built in 1951, serves as the place to cool off for youth and adults when the temperature rises.

Season passes are available for individuals or families and daily admittance is offered if you happen to be passing through town.

Among the events held at the pool on an annual basis include swim meets hosted by the John Day Swim Team.

The Seventh Street Complex, is the site of the largest outdoor recreation facility in Grant County. Malone Field is one of the finest baseball fields in Eastern Oregon. The complex also has a duck pond, paved walking trail, picnic tables, playground equipment for the young ones, and the Smokey Gibson Memorial skate park.
