SALEM – After some delays, the results of the controlled hunt draw are now available online.
The results can be found under hunting resources on the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife website. Hunters will need to have their hunting license number to check the website. Postcards notifying hunters should be mailed out early next week.
“We want to thank hunters for their patience during this year’s controlled hunt process, which was delayed due to problems with our license sale sytem,” ODFW Wildlife Division Administrator Ron Anglin said. “We recognized this could impact planning for fall hunts and rearranged work loads to complete the draw and get results out earlier than expected.”
ODFW received 418,966 applications for fall 2009 controlled big game (deer, elk, pronghorn, bighorn seep and Rocky Mountain goat) hunts, a four percent increase over last year’s receipt of 401,991 applications. The numbers have continued to rise since 2006.A total of 129,680 controlled big game hunt tags are available for the fall season.
Some of Oregon’s big game hunts are limited entry, including almost all rifle hunting of deer and elk east of the Cascades. Hunters must apply in advance to obtain one of these ‘controlled’ hunts.
Deer, elk and pronghorn hunters successful in draw must purchase their tag no later than the day before the earliest hunt period begins.
New for this year, bighorn sheep and Rocky Mountain goat hunters that draw one of these rare, once-in-a-lifetime tags can purchase their tag anytime prior to hunting.
Deer and elk hunters that were unsuccessful in drawing their preferred hunt can still purchase a general season tag.
