A Wagon train welcome, Dayville-style

- Hungry folks feast on a barbecue chicken dinner in Dayville's Community Hall during the town's welcome to the Oregon Statehood Wagon Train.
DAYVILLE – The citizens of Dayville celebrated Oregon’s 150th birthday Aug. 25 with a barbecue dinner and musical entertainment.

Over 200 people gathered in Dayville’s Community Hall for the dinner, which included chicken, baked beans, corn on the cob, watermelon and a birthday cake. Guitarist John Goodrell entertained the crowd.
The event was also a fund-raiser, netting over $1,200 for Community Hall renovations. Sponsors were the Dayville Merc, and South Fork Gas and Mini-Mart.
Brenda Coley and crew from the Snaffle Bit did the barbecuing honors.

The event was scheduled as a fund-raiser for the hall and also to welcome the Oregon Statehood Wagon Train. The wagon train stopped overnight in Dayville en route from Huntington to The Dalles, along the historic Dalles Military Road.
The Dayville Economic Growth Association (DEGA) and the Dayville Community Hall Committee coordinated the event.
