Sewing, canning classes on tap

JOHN DAY – The Oregon State University Extension in Grant County has two beginning-level classes coming up:

? A class on canning soup will be held from 1-5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, in the Johnnie Titus Room in the Health Department building, 528 E. Main Street.

The $25 cost covers the ingredients. Participants will learn how to can broth and vegetable soup using a pressure cooker, and will take home recipes and soup.

Maxine Day will be the instructor.

The class is limited to five people; the deadline to sign up is 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2.

? An apron sewing class will be held from 6-9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, in the Grant Union High School home ec room. The cost is $10 for the pattern.

Instructors will be Day and Diane Higbie.

The class is limited to 10 people; the deadline to sign up is 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9.
