Garden meetingJOHN DAY – Residents are invited to share thoughts about how the Fairgrounds Community Garden can serve the community, at a meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 21, at Keerins Hall, at the Grant County Fairgrounds.

A county committee is organizing the new garden, which is an outgrowth of the Community Garden operated on the Families First property. The new garden plot will be prepared and fenced on a portion of the Fairgrounds property east of the rodeo arena.

Gluten-free workshopJOHN DAY – People interested in learning about a gluten-free (wheat-free) diet can learn more at a workshop sponsored by Blue Mountain Hospital and Oregon State University Extension.

Stick horse rodeo, chili feed coming upSENECA – Everyone is invited to a stick horse rodeo and chili feed Saturday, Jan. 30, in the Seneca School gym.

The chili feed will be at noon, with the rodeo to start at 1 p.m. There will be bronc riding, pole bending, barrel racing and fun for all ages.

The event is sponsored by the Seneca School PTA and preregistration is encouraged.

Groundhog supperPRAIRIE CITY – The annual Groundhog Day Pancake Supper will be held at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 2, at the Strawberry Grange Hall in Prairie City.

The cost is $5 for adults, $2 for children 6-12, and children under 6 free.

Up River Country Band will provide the music.

The event is sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary.

Regional eventsRobert Burns SupperCONDON – The 13th annual Robert Burns Supper will be held from 2-5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, at the Elks Lodge, 117 S. Main Street, in Condon.

The event is in honor of Robert Burns’ birth, Jan. 25, 1759, and local Scottish heritage. Activities include recitations of Burns’ work, pipe and drums music and a shortbread baking contest.

Tickets are $17.50 a person or $30 a couple.

Poker runUNITY – The Burnt River Snowmobile Club will hold its poker run Saturday, Jan. 30. The run is approximately 50 miles, from Unity to Austin Junction and back. There will be fuel and food at both locations.

Cash payouts totaling $1,200, as well as several raffle prizes will be available, including overnight stays at Diamond Lake Resort, and Wildhorse Resort and Casino.

Tickets are $1 a ticket or 6 for $5; winners need not be present to win.

Sign up at the Water Hole in Unity; cards and tickets may also be purchased at Austin Junction.

Proceeds benefit food banks in Baker, Grant and Malheur counties.
