JOHN DAY – A local stage showcased a variety of Broadway musical favorites with crowd-pleasing talent.

More than 100 people attended the community event held April 24 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, with church members providing the entertainment.

Highlights of the evening included a group of young girls singing and dancing to “It’s a Hard Knock Life” from the musical “Annie,” Ashlie Pulleiro singing “Don’t Cry for me Argentina” from “Evita,” and Emma Renshaw singing “I’d Rather be Blue Over You” from “Funny Girl.”

Ryan Joslin drew laughter from the crowd dressed as the cowardly lion from “The Wizard of Oz.” Family members joined him on stage as he sang “If I Were King of the Forest,” including his wife Kim dressed as Dorothy, Ben as the Scarecrow and Walker as Tin Man.

Several others took the stage, including Hailey Delaney who sang “Good Morning Baltimore” from “Hairspray,” and Shaylee Joslin ended the evening with “I Dreamed a Dream” from Les Miserables.

Shaylee Joslin put together the evening event as a project to achieve her Young Women medallion in a program that helps young ladies learn to set goals. She had the help of activities director Amy Cook, and Bishop Jorge Pulleiro was emcee.

After the program, the audience and cast members were treated to cheesecake and fruit with a chocolate fountain.

There are plans to make Back to Broadway Night an annual event.
