DAYVILLE – Dayville students got their wish: a lot of applause from the audience as they performed Disney’s “Aladdin Jr” at Dayville Community Hall April 16 and 17.

Plenty of wishes were granted on the stage.

Aladdin wished to marry a princess, the princess wished to marry the man of her dreams – not an arranged marriage – and the genie wished to be free of the lamp that was giving him a “crick in the neck.”

It all worked out in the end, and the 16 cast members appeared to have a fun time unfolding the story.

Director Rebecca Bogardus was pleased with the results.

She said that when the going got tough in rehearsals the students pulled through.

“They figured out how to work together as a group and keep things going even when they had problems,” she said.

The students also learned how the community works together.

“We had a lot of community members who helped with the sets, costumes, publicity and everything from A to Z,” she noted. “The greatest thing was when they saw the finished product – their view of the place changed. It happened how it was supposed to happen.”

Debbie Gillespie, who is superintendent and principal of Dayville School said this was the first play in a long time that included student body from all age groups.

She noted Bogardus’ hard work.

“I would like to applaud Mrs. Bogardus’ patience and tenacity to create a positive musical and drama experience for our students,” she said.

Cast members included: Bud Farmer, Jake Buce, Kendall Hettinga, Hannah Flower, Cody Perkins, Josh Chapman, Ravyn Walker, Dereck Boggs, Lilly Walczyk, Kaitlyn Curtis, Skylar Powell, Tanner Walczyk, Jessica Pine, Samantha Greif, Emmalee Hettinga and Mary Haggard.
